Hiking, Wine and Photo Safari
October 20-November 2, 2009
For the curious and energetic spirit--this safari is for you. We begin in Cape Town, the town where modern South Africa was born. Cape Town is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, a spectacular blending of mountain and sea. On this safari trip, you'll explore the coast on a unique 3-day hike along the African "Wild Coast", enjoy the Cape Winelands, and then top it all off with an exciting wildlife safari at the exclusive Djume Voyatella Game Reserve.
Oct. 20, 2009 - -Day 1:
We arrive in Cape Town, transfer to the President Hotel where you'll enjoy your luxury room overlooking Bantry Bay.
Oct. 21, 2009 - -Day 2:
We travel by ferry to the historic Robben Island, the infamous island prison where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated during apartheid. We return to Cape Town for dinner at the Africa Cafe.
Oct. 22, 2009 - -Day 3:
It's all about Cape Town on Day 3. We'll take the "Heritage Tour" of Cape Town, including the Townships and District Six Museum.
Oct. 23, 2009 - -Day 4:
Our day begins with a visit to historic Cape Point and Boulder Beach, offering some of the most breathtaking scenery on the continent. We drive to Franschoek in South Africa's famous wine country where we check into our bed & breakfast accommodation, Le Franschoek.
Oct. 24, 2009 - -Day 5:
A full day of wine tasting is ours on Day 5. We'll enjoy a cellar tour around scenic Franschoek and South Africa's "winelands".
Oct. 25, 2009 - -Day 6:
We leave Cape Town and fly to East London where we'll be met by our Wild Coast guide who will escort us on our trip to the coast. We stay at the Morgan Bay Hotel in our ocean view rooms. An afternoon horseback ride, beach stroll and swim, and/or private massage at the hotel are available for us.
Oct. 26, 2009 - -Day 7:
Following breakfast, we'll hike with our guide along the beaches of the Wild Coast to Kei Mouth where we board a rustic river cruiser for an extraordinary trip up the Kei River.
Oct. 27, 2009 - -Day 8:
We travel to Haga Haga where our scenic day hike begins. We'll picnic along the ocean, enjoy a dip at the many swimming spots along our way, and arrive at Cintsa Mouth. We'll stay at the Crawfords Resort located in the dunes affording incredible views of the ocean.
Oct. 28, 2009 - -Day 9:
A day hike to Glengariff is planned as well as a swim and picnic lunch. We return to the Crawfords Resort for the evening and another overnight stay.
Oct. 29 and 30, 2009 - -Days 10-11:
We fly to our safari destination where we'll enjoy two nights at the Djuma Safari Lodge. There's a full day of game drives in the Southern African bush planned for our group. Enjoy being up-close to with elephant, Cape buffalo, impala, zebra and lion.
Oct.31 and Nov. 1, 2009 - -Days 12-13:
We travel to Voyatella for two full days of game viewing. Here is your opportunity to take those incredible safari photos that represent your once-in-a-lifetime adventure.
Nov. 2, 2009 - -Day 14:
Our incredible vacation comes to a close with a bush plane flight back to Johannesburg where you'll connect with your flights and return home.

Single supplement: $1000 (added to above rate), per person.
